The final golf major of the year kicks off at the Quail Hollow Club on Thursday, with the world’s leading players battling it out for the US PGA Championship.
Jordan Spieth is looking to join an illustrious group of players who have won all four golf majors, with the American joining the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods if he can claim victory in North Carolina. The youngster produced a fantastic performance at Royal Birkdale just a matter of weeks ago, with the American eventually getting the better of compatriot Matt Kuchar to win the Open Championship. The duo are once again set to be among the favourites for the title this week, along with world number one, Dustin Johnson.
As far the European contingent is concerned, the likes of Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm and Henrik Stenson are all coming off the back of decent performances over recent weeks, whilst Sergio Garcia and David Lynn will be hoping to go one better than their runner-up finishes in the past.
American players dominated this tournament throughout the 2000’s, however European players have begun to fight back over recent years. The likes of McIlroy, Martin Kaymer and Padraig Harrington have all won the title since 2008, while Jimmy Walker, Jason Duffner and Keegan Bradley have flown the flag for the US.
